Chinese New Year London

Mark new beginnings, see stunning artistry and watch fireworks light up the sky as you dine on delicious Asian food for the Lunar New Year in London (also known as Chinese New Year). London’s celebrations are some of the biggest Chinese New Year events outside Asia, and it’s a spectacle you’re more than welcome to join.

When is Chinese New Year?

The start of a new moon decides the date of the Chinese New Year. It always falls between 21st January and 20th February. Each year is named after an animal on the Chinese Zodiac.

Where are the Chinese New Year celebrations in London?

Unsurprisingly, the epicentre of London’s Chinese New Year celebrations is in Chinatown, and the main parade usually begins in Trafalgar Square, with plenty happening on the main stage there, too. And most London neighbourhoods have their own events marking Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year Events

Catch the Chinese New Year London parade along its usual route, starting from Charing Cross Road and going through Shaftesbury Avenue then into Chinatown. Trafalgar Square is the regular home to a Chinese New Year festival with a stage hosting acrobats, opera, dragon dances and flying lion dances.

There are food stalls galore ready to fill your belly here, and further stages along the parade route. And in Chinatown, you can buy gifts, join in the special festivities and kid-friendly activities and get a table at any of the restaurants offering special celebration meals.

So, share in the Lunar New Year London celebrates so well, right here in the capital and stay at The Clermont, Victoria and The Clermont, Charing Cross, both abundant in home comforts and heritage style. We can’t wait to welcome you.
