Things to do in London on a Friday

Nothing beats a weekend in London – and a Friday night out in the capital promises to deliver. From a cultural sightseeing tour of the towering landscapes to vibrant bars, you’re in for a night to remember.

We’ve gathered the best Friday events in London to tick all the boxes, whatever your style. Day or night, there are plenty of things to do in London on a Friday, and there’s always a Clermont hotel nearby.

Enjoy panoramic views and chic dining spots

Dining with a view comes as standard on a Friday in London. If you’re in the mood for some early evening cocktails, head to 14 Hills on Fenchurch Street. As the name suggests, you’ll be heading up to the 14th floor to discover awe-inspiring views of the city. Explore a wine flight tasting menu or go all out with a bottomless brunch.

Feel like watching the sunset? Sip on a ‘Thirsty Panda’ or ‘London Mule’ as you relax on an evening with a few bar snacks. Make sure you book in advance as tables may be required after 90 minutes, and walk-ins are only available for drinks.

Elsewhere on Fenchurch Street, you can indulge in a beautiful biophilic atmosphere courtesy of Sky Garden. Head up to level 35 to take it all in, including live bands and themed dining evenings. You’ll need to book a ticket and can enjoy an hour of free wandering.

If exquisite food is what you’re after, try Fortnum’s Bar and Restaurant. Here you’ll be treated to al fresco dining nestled within the Royal Exchange’s central courtyard. Make your way to Bank tube station and prepare for a culinary journey around the world.

Explore London’s rich culture and history

For a little daytime culture, London has plenty of goings-on on a Friday. Explore a packed-out events calendar at St Paul’s Cathedral, including tours of the Triforium and the Dome Galleries. Over at the Guildhall Art Gallery, there are regular workshops and walkthroughs covering Roman amphitheatres, local art, and much more.

If you are a fan of history, try the Roman Temple of Mithras on Walbrook. This is your chance to go behind the scenes of an ancient temple, discovering history one artefact at a time. You can also enjoy free Friday lunchtime concerts at the Barbican Centre, which have been designed to cater for those with sensory impairments.

Over at the centre are other weekly events including movie showings and music festivals. Larger scale events like festivals often require booking ahead, so check online to avoid disappointment.

Family-friendly fun: activities for all ages

There’s more to London on a Friday than just cocktails and museums. If you want to get the whole family involved, make your way to Paternoster Square where you can marvel at the enormous animal statues. Wander around these beautiful landmarks completely free of charge, and indulge in a few snacks or retail therapy afterwards/

For something more interactive, The War of the Worlds: The Immersive Experience. Here you’ll see live actors and multi-sensory effects to the tune of Jeff Wayne’s terrifying musical score. Make your way through 24 scenes to see what a Martian invasion is really like. Get yourselves a group ticket for five people to save cash, or upgrade to meals and theatre programmes.

Love your interactive simulations? Then you’ll love the F1 Arcade. Transform your reality and see the world through the lens of a Formula 1 driver, guaranteeing high-octane thrills and breakneck speeds through simulators. If you’re taking little ones, remember that the F1 Arcade is 18+ after 6pm. See it for yourself at St Paul’s.

Unwind and socialise

Hard week at work? It’s not all bright lights and dancefloors on a Friday evening in London. Try the Barbican Lakeside Terrace for a more relaxed affair. Immerse yourself with the wildlife and iconic architecture as you sip on a coffee and chat with friends.

If you love an outdoor experience, take a stroll around London’s green spaces such as the Festival Gardens near St Paul’s. And if you like a bit of competition, try Swingers’ City, located at the foot of the Gherkin. Here you can try your hand at crazy golf with a twist, including cocktails and even private parties. Explore the range of themes from meteors to lighthouses and take selfies with your friends.

Explore London’s hidden gems and unique experiences

The city may be known for breathtaking landmarks and museums, but there are other things to do in London on a Friday afternoon. Make your way around a few of the city’s hidden gems, such as Horizon 22’s viewing platform. This is the highest free viewing platform in London and it could be yours to hire for your next event.

Hungry? Try Cheese at Leadenhall, where you’ll have access to a diverse range of British, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch and Swiss cheeses. Find out more about your favourite snacks from the on-site experts. Take a bite at Leadenhall Market in the City.

For a little bit of nature without venturing outdoors, go to the Barbican Conservatory. Known as a hidden tropical oasis, it’s replete with stunning flora and fauna.
