London Fine Dining: Vegan and Vegetarian

There’s no shortage of fine dining spots in London but looking for the perfect place to dine becomes more complicated when you’re browsing for multiple dietary requirements. That’s why we’ve done the hard work for you and picked out the five best restaurants that offer vegan and vegetarian fine dining in London.

Gauthier Soho

A vegan fine dining restaurant that took big strides in making plant-based history is Gauthier in Soho. Owned and operated by experienced and award-winning French chef, Alexis Gauthier, Gauthier has two set vegan menus including a seasonal five-course petit dîner’ and eight course ‘grand dîner’ that both boast the best of plant-based ingredients and leading French gastronomy.

This fine dining vegan restaurant in London’s Soho was the first one-star Michelin restaurant to launch a vegan tasting menu ahead of turning entirely plant-based in 2021, when Alexis himself went vegan. Alexis believes the future of food is plant-based and puts that into practice daily by redefining the expectations of what fine dining can be, with the expected level of luxury and none of the animal products.

Kol

Chef Patron, Santiago Lastra, opened his Mexican restaurant, Kol, in Marylebone in 2020. Since then, the restaurant has fast become recognised as one of the best spots for vegetarian fine dining in London. Kol was opened with the intention to make innovative Mexican food with the best of British produce. Santiago’s respectful and meticulous process pays homage to traditional Mexican culture and as a result the restaurant achieved one-star Michelin status within a year of opening, as well as featuring on The World’s 50 Best Restaurant list.

Kol has separate vegetarian and vegan fine dining menus featuring Mexican classics like mole, wild mushroom tacos, turnip ceviche and spicy Jerusalem artichoke and Jersey Royal aguachile. The Mezcaleria bar is open for service before or after dining and pays respect to the traditional mezcal bars of Mexico, offering a range of Mexican spirits and antojitos which are the chef’s interpretation of traditional delicacies enjoyed by indigenous communities across Mexico.

Pied à Terre

If you’re looking for vegan fine dining in London you must consider the famed Pied à Terre, recently crowned No.1 Vegan Tasting Experience in the UK according to their website. Pied à Terre has a long legacy in London, founded in 1991 it is the capital’s longest standing Michelin-starred restaurant with award-winning vegetarian and vegan menus.

The Fitzrovia restaurant is owned and run by David Moore, while newly appointed Executive Chef Phil Kearsey cooks modern British dishes with classic French technique. The plant-based tasting menus can be enjoyed for lunch or dinner across two to ten courses that always feature a selection of the restaurant’s signature dishes.

The restaurant is modern, unique, and stylish with a focus on high-quality food, fine wine, and proper service, plus they are committed to do their part in the fight against climate change by planting a tree for every bill they raise.

Bubala

Serving outstanding Middle Eastern food with relaxed and generous hospitality, Bubala (which means ‘darling’ in Yiddish) serve casual but top tier vegan and vegetarian fine dining from their Soho and Spitalfields London restaurants. The menus feature bold flavours and inventive dishes inspired by the Middle East, championing the best fresh vegetables Britain has to offer. The varied à la carte and set menu options feature exciting dishes like traditional labneh and hummus dips, marinated meaty oyster mushroom skewers that are lightly spiced and charred over coals and golden halloumi with black seed honey. Try a signature cocktail or one of the specially selected wines, including a small collection of European orange wines from Spain, France, and Italy.
